O’Rourke Construction Ltd (OCL) were awarded a 7.5km 320kv HVDC symmetric monopole cable installation on the Sofia windfarm project.
The OCL team undertook various works on the project including:
- Supplied all site management and resources for the project
- Supplied all plant, equipment & materials for the project
- Supplied specialist vehicle and escort for the transportation of the cable drums (approx. weight 60te per cable drum) to and from the holding port to each joint bay location.
- Cable sealing end (CSE) structure foundations installations
- CSE structure installations.
- CSE’s installation
- Earthworks and haulage removal from site
- Lagoon excavation and lined with membrane to hold pumped out water from the TJB for silt settlement.
- Concrete foundation installed for the silos to be erected in preparation for thermal grouting works.
- Joint bay works and Transition joint bay excavation works
- Haul road and hardstanding installations for Winch and specialist trailer positioning
- OCL designed the cable roller stand specifically for this project to accommodate the cable from the drum (manufactured by OCL’s trusted supplier)
- 7.5km of 320kv HVDC cable installation from the TJB to the convertor station
- Installed, erected and secured cables to the CSE structures
- Supplied scaffold from design to erection for the cable installation at the convertor station.
- Arranged all transport of jointing containers to and from joint bay, TJB and convertor station location(s).
- Fibre Optic installation, including excavation of intermediate pits
- Link boxes and fibre optic chambers constructed and installed throughout the route
- Reinstatement works of joint bays, lagoon and silo foundation.
